Meetup with the Greatest

Softbinator Technologies has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a community of brilliant engineers and bridging them with the world’s most innovative tech leaders. The recent Talks by Softbinator #181 event served as an excellent platform to explore this vision. We delved into how talented engineers can collaborate remotely with some of the world’s largest tech companies while staying in Romania.

Held at the Softbinator Technologies headquarters in Bucharest and hosted by CEO and Founder Daniel Ilinca, the event brought together three renowned engineers. These professionals shared their compelling journeys, insights, and experiences, showcasing the possibilities for Romanian talent to thrive on the global stage without leaving home.

Livia Magureanu

Livia is a software engineer at 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲, a 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟬 𝗜𝗖𝗣𝗖 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘄, and an active contributor to Romania’s tech scene. She’s a member of the 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗖𝗣𝗖 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 University of Bucharest.

Before returning to Romania, Livia gained valuable experience through internships at 𝗝𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗭𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵. Beyond her professional achievements, she co-founded the 𝗡𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗼 𝗡𝗟𝗣 𝗛𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻. she has shared her expertise as a teacher at both the “Tudor Vianu” National College of Informatics and the University of Bucharest – two of the most prestigious academic institutions in Romania

Bogdan Batog

Bogdan is one of the Romanian’s elite software engineers. With extensive startup experience and a researcher’s mindset, 𝗕𝗼𝗴𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵, 𝗮 𝗡𝗬𝗖-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆. Over five years, he contributed to the company’s growth from prototype to Series B and beyond. It is also imperative to mention and bring credit to Bogdan’s former experience as CTO and co-founder of Sailo.com, an NYC-headquartered boat rental marketplace.

He has made significant contributions to the field of programming. In 2018, he published a groundbreaking algorithm for efficient dividend distribution on the blockchain. This innovation has been recognized by Paradigm VC as a “billion-dollar algorithm” due to its pivotal role in shaping decentralized finance (DeFi) applications. Marius Dumitran

Marius is a lecturer at the University of Bucharest and the coach of the university’s ICPC (ACM) teams, with an impressive record of participating in six world finals. His extensive multicultural experience includes internships at Twitter (San Francisco), Facebook (Silicon Valley), and Google (Zurich). He has also worked full-time at Palantir (London) and Google (Zurich) and conducted research in Paris and Kiel (Germany).

Beyond his professional achievements, Marius is a true global citizen, having traveled to nearly 60 countries. Since February 2020, he has returned permanently to Romania, bringing his wealth of knowledge and experience home and being committed to nurture the next generation of tech talent for what can be called a true global collaboration

Marius’s mission perfectly aligns with ours: to cultivate a thriving community of exceptionally talented students and software engineers ready to tackle some of the most complex challenges in the tech ecosystem. In light of this shared vision, he has joined Softbinator as an Academic Ambassador.

Livia Magureanu explored this dynamic and offered an intriguing observation: at the high school level, international computer science competitions are often dominated by Eastern European countries, including Romania, Poland, Ukraine, and Serbia. However, as these talented students transition to higher education, many opt to study in Western countries, bolstering those nations’ competitiveness in university rankings.

Despite this, Romania remains a hidden gem in the tech world, trusted by global giants like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Adobe, Oracle, Stripe and many others.
